QUI SOMMES-NOUSNous sommes une petite mais l'accueillante communauté de chrétiens qui partagent un amour pour Jésus et le désir de grandir en Christ. Nous sommes unis par un sentiment de fraternité, d'entraide et d'encouragement. Notre communauté fait partie du diocèse de l'Europe, et dépend de la province de Canterbury Eglise d'Angleterre est nos fonctions sont donnés en anglais. La communauté spirituelle de la Holy Cross est constituée en partie par des personnes provenant de diverses régions du monde - Royaume-Uni, Europe du Nord, Afrique, Amérique du Nord et du Moyen-Orient, en partie par des gens nés et élevés en Italie. Certains sont nés anglicans, tandis que d'autres viennent d'autres confessions religieuses. Souvent des visiteurs qui sont en Sicile pour des vacances, viennent participer à notre église pour de courtes périodes pendant leur séjour à Palerme. Nous croyons que par le culte, l'enseignement, de recherche et des pratiques de prière et de lecture des Écritures, nous devenons plus conscients de qui est Dieu et l'essence même de nos âmes. La rencontre et l'union avec Dieu par la Parole et le Sacrement, nous rend changés/différents: nous améliorent, nous devenons plus ouverte et aimante a travers nos voisins: nous devenons la lumière du monde et sel de la terre. Notre espoir ultime est la vie en paradis, une vie que nous cherchons et nous commençons à connaître durant notre vie terrestre. Our life together at Holy Cross centres around worship on Sundays and fellowship. The choir gathers on Wednesday nights at a parishioner's home, and some attend midweek Bible studies at the Chaplain's apartment. From time to time we organize outings together by bus, such as an annual visit to St. George's Taormina, the other Anglican congregation in Sicily, and for spiritual retreats, or simply to have a shared meal and enjoy one another's company in the countryside. (see our Coming Events page) We have fundraisers for particular ministries of healing and to support ministries in the wider Church. (more information on these will be posted online soon) Our church is committed to furthering Ecumenical relations with our brothers and sisters in other Christian denominations and to dialogue with other faith communities in Palermo. This engagement also challenges us to discover what are the unique contributions in thought and spiritual practice that Anglicans can bring to the wider Church.
OUR CHAPLAIN
The Rev David Phillips began ministry at Holy Cross in October 2010. He was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. Before moving to Italy in October he served in three Canadian Dioceses, most recently as rector of the Parishes of Petite Riviere and New Dublin in Nova Scotia on the east coast. Prior to this he was executive archdeacon of the Diocese of Saskatchewan in western Canada. His first ministry was as a parish priest to the Naskapi Cree, an aboriginal community in Kawawachikamach in northern Quebec. David was raised in the United Church of Canada (a union of Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregationalist churches), and after several years not attending any church he was led back and became an Anglican. He was first educated as a chemical engineer and worked as a professional engineer before returning to study Divinity at Wycliffe College in Toronto. David is ministering part-time as our chaplain while also doing some study and writing on the spiritual ascent leading to contemplation. To contact our chaplain, please see our Contact Us page.
